Imagine someone spewing a curse word every other word... talking trash about 4 wheelers... complaining about the long drive and rush hour... drinking a thermos of coffee every hour, black, no sugar... smoking 3-5 packs of Marlboros a day... Most of my fellow truckers were shocked when they finally saw the foul-mouthed, CB slamming lady they heard over the radio pop out of the truck, only to find a skinny, sweet, clean-cut, neatly dressed, and athletic 22-year-old. People judged me based on my radio persona (just as we do now when we speak over the phone or engage on social media), and never expected that I would not fit the stereotype they had come to expect. We also judge people based on how they look, without realizing we are wrong until we have a conversation. Did you know most truckers are geniuses? Super smart with degrees, but simply tired of people? Be kind, be patient, get to know people beyond the cover of first impressions. We are all the same inside, it just takes love and an open mind to cut through the superficiality of our own biased observations."
